Piece Description:
Brian Mock's sculptural representation of the Gibson SG-1 guitar, made famous by musicians Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, the Who's Pete Townshend, and Jerry Garcia of the Greatful Dead, is unbelievably constructed from 100% reclaimed metals.
Mock's Gibson SG-1 interpretation is made from a combination of repurposed nuts, bolts, screws, fasteners, washers, silverware, and scrap metal. The guitar's pick guard and headstock are fabricated from a discarded road sign and the instrument is strung with copper coated steel rods. The guitar sculpture is freestanding, plugged into a steel shaft that tapers into pistons and rotors.
